At 12:01 am on Friday November 15th, 2024, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers began a Nationwide strike against their employer Canada Post.
The Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers and the Urban Operations Units collective agreements both had expired early this year and talks have been ongoing since then.
With many unresolved issues on the table, such as wage increases in line with inflation, improvements to the group benefit plans, precautionary cessation of work for pregnant and breast feeding employees, improved protections against harassment, no contracting out, paid medical days, job security, hourly rate system (RSMC), the elimination of separate sort from delivery, service expansions, and more.
On Tuesday Nov., 12, 2024 the Canadian Union of Postal Workers National Executive Board issued a 72 hour strike notice for both the Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers (RSMC) and Urban Operations units.
We are calling on our Sisters and Brothers in our affiliated Unions for support in our Struggle and have listed the locations and times of the picket lines in the Niagara Region.
Pickets are currently Monday to Friday at these locations but may change.
