ACTION Required from L1287 Members

Dear CUPE 1287 members,
There are 2 campaigns that CUPE Ontario is asking CUPE members to join in on:

1) Child Care members need our help. The campaign is: Child Care – Keep It Safe – Keep It Sustainable
In Niagara Region, our Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE), transitioned doing their job in the Child Care Centres to doing Emergency Child Care for Essential workers. However they were not on the list for Pandemic Pay. Now with the upcoming Child Care Centres being re-opened with the new protocols in place for physical distancing, smaller numbers being allowed in the day cares, heightened cleaning and disinfecting requirements, the many child care centres throughout Ontario will be in need of extra funding while they address these new protocols when they re-open. You can add your name to the letter addressed to Minister of Education Stephen Lecce (which Child Care falls under this ministry).

Please go to : https://cupe.on.ca/safesustainablechildcare/ and join me by adding your name to the letter to Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce

2) OMERS : an important vote will be taking place on June 24, 2020, regarding the Indexing of our OMERS Pension.
“OMERS Sponsors Corporation Board (SC) will vote on June 24th 2020 to remove the Guaranteed 100 per cent inflation indexing from OMERS pension plan recipients.” What does this mean for those contributing to OMERS? If this vote passes all our contributions to OMERS up until December 31, 2022 will be indexed. If this motion passes there will be no more indexing for monies contributed to our pensions after January 1, 2023. This means that This is the third time in four years that this item has come up.

Your support to the above actions would be greatly appreciated by members of CUPE throughout Ontario.
